When should I start my wedding smile makeover?
Start as early as you can. If any straightening is involved, ideally 12–15 months before; for whitening and bonding, at least 3 months before. The golden rule is to never rush irreversible work close to the day — finish with a few weeks to spare, so everything has settled before you’re photographed. Left it late? Whitening alone can still freshen your smile in about two weeks — with in-surgery laser or blue-light whitening on hand for an instant boost, even the day before.

But the principle is simple: the more you’re changing, the earlier you start, and the finishing touches are always completed with time to settle. Here’s how a typical countdown unfolds.

How far in advance should I whiten my teeth?
Whitening is the finishing touch most brides and grooms want, and it’s the most flexible part of the plan. Dentist-prescribed home whitening is gradual and gentle: you wear custom trays with prescription gel over a couple of weeks, and most people reach their target shade in about two to four weeks. Because you control the pace, you can dial the brightness up or down and pause if your teeth feel sensitive.
Aim to reach your target shade two to four weeks before the wedding, then hold it with a short top-up if needed. That leaves a comfortable buffer for any settling and means you’re not chasing brightness in the final few days. If bonding or veneers are also part of your plan, we whiten first and match the cosmetic work to your brighter shade — never the other way around.
And if time has genuinely run out, there’s a faster route: in-surgery laser or blue-light whitening. Done in a single chairside visit, it lifts your shade there and then — so it can even give a last-minute boost a day or two before the wedding. Many couples combine the two: gentle home whitening to reach the shade, with an in-surgery top-up on hand for extra brightness right before the day.

Is composite bonding or veneers safe before a wedding?
Both are safe and popular choices before a wedding — the art is in the planning, not in doing it quickly. The guiding principle is to keep things as conservative and unhurried as possible, and to finish with time to spare. A few things we always hold to:
Start early, never rush
Irreversible work — especially porcelain veneers, which involve some tooth preparation — should never be squeezed into the final weeks. If a plan can’t be finished calmly with a buffer, we’d rather stage it or simplify it.
Whiten first
Composite bonding and veneers are shade-matched on the day and can’t be whitened afterwards, so whitening comes first — then the cosmetic work is matched to your brightest natural shade.
Leave settling time
Finishing two to four weeks ahead lets the bonding, your gums and your bite settle, and gives room for a final polish so everything looks relaxed and natural in photographs.
Favour the reversible option
Where bonding and veneers would both work, bonding is additive and more easily adjusted — often the calmer, more forgiving choice in the run-up to a big day.

Don’t panic — there’s almost always something gentle we can do, and it doesn’t involve rushing anything permanent. With roughly two weeks, we’d usually recommend whitening alone — it lifts your natural shade, needs no irreversible commitment, and leaves your teeth looking fresh rather than freshly worked-on. And right down to the final few days, an in-surgery laser or blue-light whitening session can give an instant boost — a single chairside visit, safe even the day before. Gentle tooth contouring — from £180 — is another instant option in those final days: a few minutes to smooth and neaten an uneven edge, with nothing that needs to settle afterwards.
What we won’t do is squeeze veneers or a major redesign into the final fortnight. Beautiful smile design rewards patience — and you deserve to walk down the aisle relaxed, not recovering from a rushed appointment. How long before my wedding should I start my smile makeover?
As early as you comfortably can. If you’d like your teeth straightened with Invisalign, allow twelve to fifteen months. For whitening and composite bonding, three months is a comfortable window. The aim is always to finish with a few weeks to spare, so nothing is rushed and everything has settled before the day.
Can I whiten my teeth the week before my wedding?
For home whitening, it’s better not to leave it to the final week — dentist-prescribed trays take about two to four weeks to reach their brightest, and teeth can feel a little sensitive along the way, so we’d start two to three weeks out and finish a few days before, not the night before. Should I whiten before or after bonding for my wedding?
